Activities of RRC at a glance

The Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh has undertaken plans to implement Digital Bangladesh and Vision 2021. In the implementation of this plan, a large population suffering from physical disabilities of the total population of the country should also be given equal importance. Bangladesh has already qualified for transition from least developed country status. In this regard, various programs including training, education stipend, loan programs and allowance programs have a role to play in the welfare of disabled persons managed by the Department of Social Services. A comprehensive survey of persons with disabilities has been completed by the Department of Social Services in Bangladesh, which has been completed in a few developed countries in the world. Apart from this, according to Section 16 of the Rights and Protection of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2013, every eligible disabled person has equal rights in all respects.

In the financial year 1981-82, RRC was established on 3.60 acres of land at Mulghar village of Fakirhat Upazilla of Bagerhat district with the intention of involving the physically challenged youth in the mainstream of society by imparting various types of technical training. The activities of this center started in June 1987. The number of approved seats in this institution is 30. At present, the training program of this center is closed as the hostel is unfit for residents. 356 physically challenged persons have completed training from this Centre. So far the number of resettled is 232 people.

Vocational Training for Physically Handicapped was started in 1987 with the aim of providing vocational training to physically challenged persons and creating employment opportunities and rehabilitation. From the beginning training was imparted in 03 trades namely Mechanical Workshop, Tailoring Training and Livestock and Poultry Husbandry. Rehabilitation of the disabled by training through the training courses introduced at the inception of the center is not up to date with the current market demand. As a result, the disabled trained in the center are lagging behind in the competition in terms of employment. Currently, thousands of educated and physically able unemployed boys and girls are wandering from door to door for a common job. In such a situation, the position of a job seeker with less education and no proper training is easily conceivable. RRC is working to ensure the status and rights of the disabled.
